HILLTOP TRAILS
Vista
Bahia sits on one side of a peninsula ridge that
juts out into the bay with its peak divided
between our property and the adjacent, yet to be
developed property. Our property faces east
looking out into the bays waters. On this
peninsula hilltop are primary trees which are
used by a howler monkey troop for sleeping and
nesting at night. Our room buildings are about
midway down this ridge which at its highest
point is 60 meters high.
The
Hilltop trail allows a hiker to access this
hilltop through the trees with vistas out to the
bay below. The trail is new and cut into the
hilltop earth and at present is a bit crude but
still offers a great morning hike.
The hilltop trees are
home to our local howler monkey troop that sleep
in nests they build each night when they are
foraging in the area. This foraging is dependent
of the flowering of our local trees or the
beginning of leaf formation when the young leaf
shoots are most tender. Since howler monkeys
diet consist solely vegetarian, the continued
protection of the forest is critical to their
visits.
This
hillside forest has been undisturbed and offers
a hiker a stroll with distant views out to the
bay and surrounding mountains and volcanoes in
the distance. As we continue to develop this
site, we hope to build more perches which are
steel platforms suspended on a rock pillar,
thrust up into the treetops but access from the
sloping hill. This allows birders and nature
lovers to see a birds view or more importantly,
the monkeys vantage point. Sunset can also be
seen from this vantage point but its view is a
bit restrictive until we complete additional
viewing platforms.
