PLAYA BLANCA
Our resorts lies on the protected side
of a larger peninsula we call Pacheco due to the owners name. At low tide, a
wonderful hike on lava shoreline with tidal pools and spectacular ocean views is
suggested (Trails --] Pacheco Tide Pools) To access Playa Blanca, our guests
take a twenty minute kayak paddle around this point and across a small internal
bay which hosts the Occidental Papagayo Resort. On the far side is a secluded
beach with yellow sand and great snorkeling. We have been out on this tour with
whales moving slowly into the bay, emerging to the surface just adjacent to your
kayak! This little beach offers two coves and a shoreline that is steep leading
to coral reef off shore.
Since the wave action is directly
exposed to the Pacific the water is choppy. The small waves within the bay are a
comfortable roller coaster for paddlers. The resort can offer a guide to
accompany those wanting some additional assistance. We recommend taking the
resorts snorkeling gear with you and a starting this tour in the early morning
since the regional winds begin to blow around 11 am and are blowing against you
when you come back.
