OUR TRAILS

There are four trails
that lead from the resort out: Shoreline,
Hilltop, Playa Panama and Tide-pool. These
trails have been build or envisioned by the
resort because each offers a different
environment and all are comfortable walking
trails. Of course, extensive hiking can be found
at the four volcano parks behind the resort and
information on those is located in Tours page on
the this site.
Our
trail we call Shoreline has been created on the
ridge over the bays shore with bridges and
viewing perches for guests. It allows guest to
move onto the two beaches the resort features.
The resort sits on a small volcanic peninsula
with a dry tropical forest preserved in the
first 50 meters from the waters edge and up a
hilltop behind the resorts rooms. The trees
where the rooms have been built are still intact
and thus the wildlife have habitat to use and
you can see the birding and wildlife. To access
this wildlife viewing, the resort has built
trails, bridges and platforms for viewing and
this work continues.
The
view out to the bay allows visitors to see three
volcanoes in the distance, Orosi, Rincon de la
Viaje, Miravalles. These volcanoes form when the
Pacific Tectonic Plate dives below the very
small Cocos Plate (named after the small
community we are adjacent to). Twenty six miles
below the earth, the rock is melted and due to
the water content, this molten rock rises and
forms these volcanoes which are part of the Ring
of Fire volcano chain. The rock the resort sits
on evolved through this process.
The
natural landscape and wildlife are best seen in
the early morning hours or just before sunset.
The tropical sun heats up the atmosphere during
the day and winds begin to blow steadily from
the east. Our weather comes from the east,
different than from North America or Europe
because we are in the tropics. The four hikes
are designed to show a different natural
characteristic of the land including low tide
pools, coral sand beaches, mocha colored sand as
ours is and even black volcanic sand. Since the
resort trails are being developed, at this time
they are gravel with steel bridges traversing
the ravines.
